The Art of Still Life

Tonight sees the opening of our new exhibition The Art of Still Life. We have been very busy installing the exhibition in the gallery after our hugely successful Galloway Paintings exhibition closed on Saturday.

Please join us from 7 - 9 pm for drinks in the gallery.

The exhibition has been enormous fun to organise. We have worked closely with painters and ceramists to explore the theme of Still Life and the result is an amazing collection of work.

We've very lucky to have Ewan McClure joining us to paint a Still Life during the opening. Ewan is an exceptionally talented oil painter and had a self portrait in the 2013 BP Portrait Award at the National Gallery in London.

Pamela Grace Printmaking Demonstration

We're getting the gallery ready for a printmaking demonstration this Saturday (the 29th).

Artist printmaker Pamela Grace will be joining us to show how she makes her Solar Plate etchings. She will have a small etching press in the gallery so you will be able to see the whole process from start to finish.

There will be two demonstrations:

11 am - 12 noon
3 pm - 4 pm

Drinks will be served all day and there is no need to book for this event.

We have over thirty of Pamela's framed etchings and watercolours in an exhibition for this event.

Look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Painting in Progress

The gallery painting is in progress this week. No rain so far thankfully! The colours are looking good and decorator Gordon Neil is doing a grand job.

We took down our sign and you can now see the shop lettering for 'Granny's' (from the 1970's) that we are preserving under the McGill Duncan Sign.

Granny's was a Biba style clothes boutique with black walls and ceilings. The building was then bought by Niall McGill Duncan and became a picture framing company. Niall held his first exhibition in 1978, and it became McGill Duncan Gallery. We have a long history behind us.

Choosing colours

Weather permitting, the gallery exterior is being painted next week. Our sign will be down for a couple of days but rest assured, we are OPEN!

testing paint colours

After much deliberation we have chosen Mylands paint and their colours Indian Lake for the masonry and Bond Street for the windows and door.

Margaret Morris - Spring Fringe

Jill took part in a 'Spring Fringe' event during Spring Fling with her Margaret Morris Movement teacher Sara Lockwood. The event took place at Waulkmill. A beautiful setting for the dance. Sara Lockwood choreographed the dance to the song 'Aye Waukin O' by Robert Burns recorded by Eddie Reader.

The audience was small but very appreciative and a workshop followed. The evening was made a resounding success by the wonderful hospitality of hosts John and Lois Crallan.

Many thanks to John Crallan and Roy Lorrain-Smith for the photographs.
